St Mark’s pastoral team comprises a small group of people, all ladies at
present, who support the clergy in their pastoral work within the community of
Kempshott. We work with the minister and respond to the needs of the
congregation and the parishioners when they are brought to our attention.
We are not professionals although we have attended some training courses, so we
support people as friends and listeners in what we hope is a sensitive and
encouraging way.
Sometimes we deliver a card or flowers on behalf of the church, maybe if there
is illness or hospitalisation, or perhaps following a bereavement. We work
closely with the minister and each other to try to ensure that we are aware of
needs, but it is inevitable that sometimes people slip through the net.
We are very aware of the need for complete confidentiality and trust, but we do
depend upon situations being brought to our attention by members of the
congregation occasionally. Any information would be discussed with the minister
before any action is taken.
We have a special relationship with the residents of Buckingham Court, with the
approval of the housing association, Kingfisher, and the manager of that
complex. We hold occasional services at Easter, Harvest tide and Christmas,
when we are joined by Kempshott Junior School Choir who sing to us and with us.
The services are led either by our Curate, Angela, or our non-stipendiary
minister, Mandy and are normally well attended and much enjoyed.
We have also held a short course for those wanting to explore or develop their
faith and we have recently set up, at the request of some residents, a monthly
Communion service. All these events take place in the community hall on
Buckingham Court and are supported by members of the pastoral team.
We like to feel that we are making a valuable contribution to the work and
outreach of St Mark’s and would be happy to speak to anyone who thinks we could
be helpful in any way.
Please contact the church office during office hours, or leave a message if you
would like someone to contact you.
